November 2014 Winner – Kellie Schrader, Somerset Nursery School & Children’s Centre
Congratulations to Kellie Schrader for being this month’s Smartie of the Month!
Kellie was nominated by Samantha Steward, Deputy Head/SENCO at Somerset Nursery School & Children’s Centre, where Kellie has been working as an Early Years teacher for the past year.
“As a small nursery we only have two lead teachers and a team of seven of support staff. Therefore the quality of those teachers, the breadth of their knowledge and their confidence as leaders has to be incredible. Kellie meets these demanding criteria, and also happens to be positive, vibrant and engaging with the parents and children too!
Kellie has been co-teaching with an NQT and become a great mentor. She has made this working relationship very successful. Our NQT has a colleague who is inspiring and passionate about her work with the children, and who always looks for the positive in the most challenging situations.
With regards to Kellie’s actual teaching, she has supported our NQT to transform the learning environment. She has taken the initiative and developed lots of opportunities for extending early writing for our more able children, and throughout each session she somehow maintains a lively and dynamic persona which the children love. Overall Kellie is a huge asset to our team and we would be at a loss without her.”
Congratulations Kellie. We’d be lost without you too.
The ‘Smartie of the Month’ award recognises outstanding teachers and support staff for their dedication, professionalism and work on behalf of Smart Teachers. Each month, we recognise a different ‘Smartie’ based on contributions to their school, excellence in the classroom, leadership abilities, community involvement and a variety of other criteria.
